As of today, January 1, 2018, the cryptocurrency market capitalization stands at $615 billion dollars. Blockchain is the underlying technology behind these currencies. Big organizations and government are also recognizing the operational use cases for blockchain. Walmart, Microsoft, IBM, Overstock.com are some of the familiar, publicly traded companies that have invested in blockchain technology.  Big companies are not the only organization investing in blockchain. Innovative startups are also leveraging blockchain to solve some of the challenges facing businesses and organizations.
